CT: Faithless 'Insomnia' 30s clip SHOOT

Curtis and Jake filmed our 30 second clip on Tuesday the eighth of October, we decided upon our location which was a dark room used by the art department at Ilkley Grammar School. The dark room provided minimum light which goes along with the theme of our music video 'I can't get no sleep.'

We used multiple shots and used three locations in total, we wanted to use close ups and mid shots to show our main characters emotion and actions. This will be in much more depth in our full video.

As this is just a rough 30 second clip we wanted to get an idea of the shots we could use and would be able to use. We now know that we are allowed to shoot in the dark room which will no doubt be a key location for our actual shoot

However we did encounter some problems

  • Finding a dark background - even though we shot in the dark room our backdrops were still white/grey this will be something we have to plan ahead for to get a black background sheet of card.
  • Getting official permission to film in the dark room.
  • Lack of dark locations - other than the dark room on school site there isn't much to work with and if we were to film in school our video would have to be heavily edited. We need to decide on a suitable location outside of school.
  • Using an efficient light source.
  • To know the lyrics.

This is the original video this is what we were kind of trying to achieve in the sense of using dark colours and star treatment.

Our clip will be up shortly.

Music Vid Pitch

The track I've chosen to create a music video on is 'Gold' by Bondax .

ACT: Bondax
TRACK: Gold
YEAR:  2013
DIRECTOR:
GENRE: Deep House
MAIN AUDIENCE: M:18-34
LYRICS.

The Deep House Genre:

The genre is recognised for it's relaxing chilled out tracks therefore this should influence my music video, for example effects like slow motion can be applied to some takes and in the actually video for 'Gold' most of it is in slow motion so here's a good example to look at.

Target Audience:
To anchor my target audience within the video i've decided to use actors of the target audience age range at an age of 18 and with th actory being male it also anchors my primary target audience which is males of this age, however to appeal to the secondary audience which is females of this ages so i'm planning on applying the female gaze theory with the male actor to appeal to this secondary audience.

EG18: Sebastian Ingrosso-Reload

ACT: Sebastian Ingrosso

TRACK: Reload
YEAR:  2012
DIRECTOR:
GENRE: House
MAIN AUDIENCE: M/F15-24
Music Video:

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VISUALS + LYRICS:
medium shot
There's no direct relationship between the lyrics and visual with lip syncing as there's no singer in the video, instead it's just a narrative structure however they do link at time with the lyrics, for example with the lyrics "sending you far away" the female actor finds herself lost far away.

PACE + ANY VARIATION OF PACE:

The video is editted to fit the pace of the track so that when the track has and up beat tempo there's been fast paced editing used which aslo provides verisimilitude, but also when the track starts to loose tempo the length of the takes start to loose tempo and start to be longer.

LOCATIONS:
Establishing shot
There's a large variety of locations being used within this video which is common for music videos as it adds interest for the audience, they use lots of establishing shots to reveal these locations.

EG17: Avicii-Silhouettes

ACT: Avicii
TRACK: Solhouettes

YEAR:  2012
DIRECTOR:
GENRE: House
MAIN AUDIENCE: M/F15-24
Music Video:

Medium long shot
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VISUALS + LYRICS:
Throughout most of the video there's no link between the visuals and the lyrics making it seem like just a narrative structure, however at the end in one shot the surgeon is diegetically singing the song which forms a relationship to the lyrics from the visuals.

PERFORMANCE, NARRATIVE AND/OR CONCEPT?:
It seems with the video that it's more narrative and concept rather than performance as there's no link with the lyrics throughout the video on until the end when a surgeon is singing but he's not related to the band so isn't entirely performance.

 AUDIENCE IN VID?:
Extreme close up of bottles
The audience is represented within the video by the mise-en-scene with all the alcoholic bottles lined up as if they've just had a party the night before, which is the stereotypical representation of ages 15-24, and there's also a party which leads to a sex scene which is also a common representation of this ages group.

PACE + ANY VARIATION OF PACE:
The video is editted to the pace of the track so where the track is up beat there's been fast paced editing used which aslo provides verisimilitude, but also when the track starts to loose tempo the length of the takes start to loose tempo and start to be longer.

Titles
 TITLES:
There's the common code with titles been used at the start of this music clip to give that cinematic approach that most directors attempt to achieve with music videos.
