History of House Genre
Dance genre - Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music.
History of house:
House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the American city of Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized circa 1984 in Chicago, but beginning in 1985, it fanned out to other major cities across North and South America, as well as Europe and later Australia. Early house music commercial success in Europe saw songs such as "House Nation" by House Master Boyz and the Rude Boy of House (1987) and "Doctorin' the house" by Coldcut (1988) in the pop charts. Since the early to mid-1990s, house music has been infused in mainstream pop and Dance music worldwide.
Here is a list of some of the sub genres of the dance genre:
- Trance
- Garage
- House-deep house-progressive house
- Electro
- Indie
- Dub step
- Techno
- Jungle
- Drum and bass
- Electronica
- Trap

Lyric Booklet Research
J.Cole Nation |
It was simple what we found in that they consisted of all the lyric in the tracks that would be in the digipak, and for each track the lyrics would be displayed on one page.
Paramore |
Ultimately the lyric booklet would link in effectively with the whole package and flow well
Dance/House Conventions
This is a useful Prezi I found to help us.

Artist Digipak Research
Don't Leave |
Font:
Firstly what we found was that they used a common font which is recognisable to the artist, therefore we could also use this font and achieve intertextuality this way. So we'll have to research the font and download it to use in our digipak.
Bombs |
Also it is common for Faithless to have their name above the name of the album or single, and they'd do this in a much bolder text than the album/single's title which makes it stand out a lot more, we plan on using this similar layout for our front cover, and the text would usually be centred in the page which we'll also take influence to do.

Filter Tools:
These filter tools were good to add effects to our images so that they'd look better with certain effects, for example i used the artistic effect on most of my images as it worked more effectively with the theme of the digipak.
Effect Tools:

Layers tool |
This tool was also fundamental in creating my digipak as it meant i could have a variety of images in one place but all positioned differently, which was helpful when i imported new images to my digipak file and wanted to layer this image under or over the top of another image.
Magic tool |
Magic Tool:
With this tool i could remove all the waste from an image much more efficiently than using the eraser tool, and it was much more accurate in pulling out the actual image that you needed from it's background.
Text tool |
Text Tool:
This was probably the most important of the tools i worked with as my digipak relied on the text to be right, therefore with this tool i could choose from a variety of font sizes, styles and thicknesses so that I'd find the correct one that links and flows well with the theme of my artist and the digipak itself.

Rough Cut 2 Feedback
We got an extensive amount of research for our second rough cut from our primary target audience, we had them write down their thoughts onto sheets of paper. Once we had gathered them all up we began to categorise them and highlighted the main points.
One reason that was highlighted here, was that we had our primary target audience correct. As one of the pieces of feedback we got from the year ten class which are aged 14-15, was that only two of the people in the class of 30 knew what the track was. Also another factor was that none of them would put the song on their ipod.
In contrast to the year 12 class 50% of them recognised the track and 75% of them would put it on their ipod. The year 12's are aged 16-17 which matches our target audience (15+24) Therefore from this feedback we are clear that we have our primary target audience set correctly. The only fault was that some people mentioned that 15 may be too young. However, we disagree with this. Although the BBFC don't currently age rate videos they are going to start as this post highlights BBFC plans to introduce age ratings.
The black and white effect seems to be very popular amongst our target audience. We were pleased with this feedback as we feel it really sets a mood for the music video and people do like the dark tone it gives.
One piece of negative feedback we received which we feel the need to act upon is the loss of emphasis towards the end of the video.

Digipak Draft 2: Feedback
For the feedback on our digipak draft 2 we printed out and showed our target audience what we'd produced and questioned them on what they thought worked well or what didn't. This way we can receive constructive feedback in which we can go on to make improvements so that our digipak works for out target audience.
Front:
The feedback we received from our front cover was mostly positive as they much preferred the font on this than our old draft, also the image works well because it leaves space for the titles to work, they also like that the titles were in different font sizes signifying the importance of each over the other, for example the 'FAITHLESS' is larger than the 'THE DANCE GOES ON' as the artist is the importance. However they thought that the wording on the stick could be phrased better because it needs to be focussed on the exclusive DVD more than the track listing, therefore for our final draft this is what we'll have to change for our front cover on the digipak.
Rear:
We received similar feedback for the rear as they much preferred this draft to the previous, one of the main reasons is that it makes more sense and flows with the front cover well, and they thought that the font work well with the overall piece also and you can tell that we took the font into consideration as we researched and downloaded this particular font (Nevis). However the small print text at the bottom could be worded better as it doesn't quite follow the conventions of a digipak yet, and the twitter logo on the lower right also doesn't follow the conventions therefore we'll have to change these two aspects so that our digipak follows the common conventions.
Inside Right:
For the inside cover we stuck with the idea of having a grid of different images of the chair as it worked well and achieved the abstract feel to it which is what we wanted, although from our feedback previously we've added more variety of shots and colour contrasts to make it more interesting.
Inside Left:
Similar to the previous side we've decided to stick with the grid method here also as it contrasts well with the opposite side, although we've repeated the same images to make it look different to the other and to add this uniqueness to our digipak.
Centre Panel:
As for the centre panel we've received positive feedback from across the board as it follows all the conventions of a digipak and adds to the continuity of the front and back sides of the digipak, which is an excellent contribution to the overall product.
